Gujarat government announced on Sunday that under the Namo Lakshmi Yojana, over seven lakh girl students have received financial assistance exceeding Rs 174 crore, while more than one lakh students have benefited from an estimated Rs 40 crore under the Namo Saraswati Yojana. These two schemes, aimed at providing “high-quality, future-oriented education,” were introduced in the state’s 2024-25 budget as part of the education sector initiatives. The government hopes to increase enrollment of girls in secondary and higher secondary schools, as well as the number of science stream students across the state. The Namo Lakshmi Yojana, with a budget allocation of Rs 1,250 crore, supports education for girls from economically weaker sections. Under this scheme, girls in Classes IX to XII in government, aided, and private schools will receive Rs 50,000 in total. This includes Rs 500 monthly in Classes IX and X, Rs 10,000 after Class X, and Rs 750 monthly in Classes XI and XII, totaling Rs 15,000. An additional Rs 5,000 is provided after Class XII.
