In the first week of operations, the new Ro-Pax ferry has transported over 5,400 passengers and 1,700 vehicles across the Gulf of Khambhat. The average passenger occupancy on the ferry, inaugurated by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on October 27, has risen from 12 per cent to 57 per cent, mostly assisted by influx of passengers travelling home to Saurashtra from South Gujarat from Diwali holidays, according to Chetan Contractor, the CMD of Indigo Seaways Pvt Ltd. “The passenger occupancy for trips from Dahej is as high as 90 per cent as most of the workers employed in diamond and textile units are using the ferry to visit their homes in Saurashtra for Diwali,” he said.
