The Gujarat government has taken a key step towards finding a permanent solution to the problem of asphalt roads that frequently deteriorate across the state. At a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday, it was decided to construct internal roads in municipal corporations, municipalities and villages in phases using cement concrete (C.C.). The Cabinet also decided to expand the construction of C.C. roads in industrial areas wherever required. The government said that C.C. roads will improve the strength, durability and overall quality of road infrastructure. Modern construction technology will also be adopted wherever necessary. The Cabinet also reviewed the Energy Department’s efforts to restore electricity supply swiftly during the recent spell of heavy rainfall. More than 900 teams comprising over 3,400 electricity workers worked on a war footing to repair 2,575 feeders, 1,464 electricity poles and 5,000 transformers damaged in the rains. As a result, power supply was restored within a few hours in all 1,197 villages that had experienced outages. ........
