Kamrej police have arrested Umang Haribhai Thakkar, owner of Ahmedabad’s well-known Patang Hotel, in connection with an alleged land fraud case involving ₹1.56 crore. Police alleged that Thakkar collected money from buyers by promoting the ‘Sahajanand Nirvana’ plotting project on land whose title was not clear. According to the FIR registered at Kamrej Police Station, Thakkar launched the project in Kholvad village of Kamrej taluka and accepted bookings for open plots. However, during the investigation, police found that the land on which the project was advertised had already been sold to another person in 2018. Despite this, the accused allegedly continued marketing the project and accepting bookings from prospective buyers. Police said Thakkar promised plots to more than 15 buyers and collected a total of ₹1.56 crore from them. However, neither were the plots allotted nor was the money refunded, prompting the victims to approach the police. Following the complaint, Kamrej police registered a case and launched an investigation. Investigators alleged that the accused had been evading legal action for a considerable period by using his influence and political connections, but was eventually traced and arrested. .......
