The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has booked a contractor for allegedly duping a 43-year-old stock trader of Rs 75 lakh on the promise of high returns from a residential project in Naranpura. According to the FIR, the trader met the contractor in December 2022 at a pan shop near Ankur Crossroads. The contractor later claimed he had secured a residential project in Naranpura and persuaded him to invest, promising a 25% share in the profits. The complainant alleged that between April and September 2023, he invested Rs 75 lakh through cash payments and self-cheques. As security, the contractor allegedly issued five cheques from different bank accounts, including those of his wife and his company. The trader also claimed he briefly worked as a site supervisor on the project. However, construction stopped in October 2023 after labourers reportedly went unpaid, and the developer terminated the contractor’s agreement. .......
