In yet another step to ease traffic near the busy Bhat Circle, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has decided to construct an underpass at the junction. The underpass was approved by AUDA in 2022 at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore, but was not built. The civic body has now decided to construct it as part of the ongoing six-laning of the Sardar Patel (SP) Ring Road. This comes just weeks after the cable-stayed bridge at Bhat Circle, also known as Rajasthan Circle, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. It is noteworthy that the bridge, commissioned in 2019, was built at this busy junction on the 76-km SP Ring Road. The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department had sanctioned the bridge project at an estimated cost of Rs 135.7 crore, with AUDA agreeing to share half of the construction cost. Around the same time, AUDA also approved an underpass at the Circle. However, while construction of the cable-stayed bridge continued and was eventually completed, the underpass project did not move forward. .........
