The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a new initiative to identify and provide safe shelter to homeless people living in public places across the city. Under the initiative, citizens who spot homeless people taking shelter on footpaths, under bridges, at religious places, bus stations, railway stations, gardens or other public spaces can call the AMC’s toll-free public complaint number 155303 and provide the location and other details. Following a complaint, officials and staff of the AMC’s Urban Community Development (UCD) Department will reach the spot, counsel the person and shift them safely to the nearest shelter home. The civic body has arranged zone-wise rescue vehicles, dedicated staff and teams including bouncers to ensure that homeless people can be rescued promptly and provided with safe accommodation. .......
