Surat is set to showcase a new benchmark in sustainable event management as elaborate preparations have been made to ensure that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s World Environment Day programme on June 5 is conducted in a completely eco-friendly and plastic-free manner. According to an official release, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Mission LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment), the administration has banned the use of plastic and thermocol at the event venue and transformed the programme into a large-scale display of environmental awareness and sustainable practices. The event venue will highlight Surat’s status as India’s cleanest city through bamboo installations, sculptures created from recycled waste materials, and eco-friendly rangolis crafted by tribal artisans. Organisers have replaced conventional flex banners and artificial decorations with hand-painted hoardings and artistic installations made from discarded materials, demonstrating the concept of turning waste into meaningful art. ........
